[I was able to watch two awesome movies this summer and I'm planning to post my reactions about the movies here!]

\"A faint clap of thunder, Even if rain comes or not, I will stay here, Together with you." -Takao Akizuki

Kotonoha no Niwa is one of Makoto Shinkai's masterpiece. It tells the story of a highschool boy named Akizuki and a school teacher named Yukino. The two met one rainy morning at the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.

Akizuki is an aspiring shoe maker. He has a habit of skipping school during rainy mornings and spends the time for his first subject in the garden to design shoes. One morning, he met a mysterious woman drinking beer partnered with chocolate early in the morning.

The two will always meet in the same place during rainy mornings until they developed an odd relationship. Both of them enjoyed each other's company while keeping anonymity. It was later on that one morning, Akizuki discovered the woman's real identity after hearing the stories from his friends.

The woman happens to be a teacher of his school named Yukino. Her students bullied her to the point of losing hope in returning to school and continue teaching. Thus instead of doing her job, she spent her day in the park where the garden where he met Akizuki.

You might be raising an eyebrow right now and saying "What is this? Some movie about student x teacher sprinkled with May December Relationship?". Well yeah... basically its a yes and a no. You don't want me to spoil the good movie don't you? (Though if you know Makoto Shinkai enough, you know where this movie is going lol)

What I like most from the movie aside from the tear jerking plot is the animation. Its almost as if you're not watching anime (notice the backgrounds). I remember my sister and I laughing so hard because we pause every now and then to check if it really looks real or what.

See? SEE?!
I've read a lot of reviews and comments about the movie from other blogs and yep they're right. This story is way way diffrent from Shinkai's work such as "Five Centimeters Per Second". Its not that depressing but it'll leave you hanging.

You can watch the movie HERE!

Enjoy watching!

Hidoku Shinaide/ Treat Me Gently, Please

HIDOKU SHINAIDE/ TREAT ME GENTLY PLEASE
Yonezou Nekota
BBC/ Be x Boy Comics

Hidoku Shinaide is about a scholar named Nemugasa Takashi and the popular, easy going Maya Hideyuki.

One time, Nemugasa received a verbal warning from his advisor that if he failed to be part of the top 5 students in the upcoming exam, his scholarship will be voided. In order to score high and keep his scholarship, he resorted to one thing, cheating.

Too bad Maya saw and threatened him. The price of keeping his mouth shut? It’s no other that Nemugasa’s body.

[STORY]
“The plot is common but the pacing is not rushed and not too slow which gave an impression that Nemugasa and Maya fell in love to each other naturally.”

Hidoku Shinaide’s story is pretty cliché. It has the common “delinquent x bookworm” pairing that most stories, from shoujo to shounen ai, has.

What I like in the story in spite of having such common plot is the thrill of discovering who will fall in love first. Will it be Maya or Nemugasa? The two are literally the “two sides of a coin”. They are not much alike and are very incompatible. “Will they fall in love for each other?” “Will their relationship work out?” These questions will run into your mind and will force you to read the next chapter and the next, and the next. Well, if you read the story till the recent update, you’ll know the answer. (My fangirl self is screaming internally right now)

The story never ran into circles. It’s not all about lover’s quarrel, but not all part is about s*x. Each chapter has a story to tell about the two. (Somehow it’s like a shoujo manga)

Hidoku Shinaide has a nice pacing and organized flow of events. It started from the not – so – serious, immature high school love to intense, passionate college students’ relationship. It allowed each character’s feeling to develop slowly and naturally. Thumbs up to this.

[ART]
“Don’t judge it yet after reading the first volume. Maya is so hot you’ll wish you’re Nemugasa.”

First is character design.

You can see in the picture above how the character design change over time. The picture on the left is from the first chapter while on the right is from chapter 17. (Actually I’m not really sure if its 17 or what lol. There are errors while I’m downloading some chapters using my PC”s software, thus it was not properly arranged. I managed to fix it though, but not too sure.)

The character design is quite ordinary (stereotype lol). Nerdy Nemugasa is wearing glasses, has a “coconut shell” hair style and always wears plain shirt and cardigan (He reminds me of Kaneki from is good old ‘normal’ days). On the other hand Maya has spiky blonde hair, piercings and wears flashy clothes. (But I like his new black hair hohoho Still he looks like the common “I’m a popular ikemen say kyaa to me” character.)

To be honest, while reading the first few chapters, I was kind of reluctant whether I’ll continue reading it with such art style. (I dunno why but I’m picky when it comes to this matter haha) But I continued anyway because the story is good.

As an artist myself, I pretty much understand that it’s hard to find the most comfortable art style especially if one will draw a manga. It must be consistent and must be something that an artist can draw within a limited time frame (since they have to deal with like hundred pages of BLOODY drafting, editing etc.)

I liked how it improved overtime. It looks cleaner, less edgy and more proportioned. Good work Nekota – sensei.

 Second point: Background

I do not have any complains to this. The manga has little to no white background and for that I’m giving two thumbs up. (White background turns me off haha)

[CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT]
“It is by the every situation both of them encounter as a couple that their characteristics change and develop overtime.”

It there’s any major character development it the series, that’ll be Maya’s. But for the mean time, let me describe each character as presented in the first few chapters. (and everyone is welcome to add more if you want HAHAHA)

Nemugasa Takashi:
  • ·         Polite
  • ·         Calm
  • ·         Well Mannered
  • ·         Loves to study (more like he needs to study hard to keep his scholarship)
  • ·         Poor (not really important info though)
  • ·         Simple minded and very slow
  • ·         Submissive
  • ·         Definitely a masochist

Maya Hideyuki:
  • ·         Aggressive
  • ·         Easy going
  • ·         Gets angry easily, very hot headed
  • ·         Easily gets jealous
  • ·         Possessive (?)
  • ·         Not patient
  • ·         Rich and famous
  • ·         Ultimate pervert and has weird fetishes

Not even close to being compatible. But their love story gave me immeasurable gay happiness. (lol).

After the two become lovers, Nemugasa continues to be simple minded and slow to catch up even in serious situations (that can even risk their relationship lol), however, it is noticeable that he starts to be more honest with his feelings to Maya and opens up when ever needed. (“Opens up” kukuku).

On the other hand Maya becomes a little bit more patient to Nemugasa and somehow becomes more understanding when it comes to different matters (especially when it’s about studies). He even changed his outer appearance just to look more decent (refer to 3rd pic). However Maya still gets easily jealous and acts like a protective mother. He also gets fuzzy over little things that concern their relationship. You can ruin everything in this world but not their lovey dovey relationship or else you’re doomed to death. (Exaggerated but true)

To sum this review up I’m giving this yaoi series a rate of 8.5 out of 10. I Hope this review will convince you to read Hidoku Shinaide and support other Nekota – sensei’s work!

P.S. Uke with glasses is good but Seme characters with glasses makes me ‘kyaa’ more haha. If only Maya with black hair has glasses~~

Hidoku Shinaide & Ten Count Insight and Review

Surprisingly, I was able to read two yaoi manga series during Christmas break and I decided to make a review about them.

I’m not a big fan yaoi series ‘cuz I don’t have much time checking releases every month. (I’m a busy student after all) I’m more into yaoi doujinshi and one shot. But for a change of pace (and a friend of mine is pestering me to read it EVERYDAY), I decided to read Hidoku Shinaide and Ten Count. I really enjoyed it and I don’t mind checking and waiting for new releases every month. Lol. (Translators, please do your best~)

My review will be focusing on three categories: Story, Art (Character design and Background) and Character Development. Anyway, I’m not a pro to this but I’ll make sure to use appropriate words to describe the categories of each series as close and as accurate as possible.

I will be posting my reviews about each manga on separate posts.

Shigatsu wa Kimi ni Uso (Your Lie in April)

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Your Lie in April)
Author: Arakawa Naoshi
Number of Episodes: 22 + 1 OVA
Duration: 22 mins per episode
Fall 2014

Main Cast
Feels. Feels. Feels.
************
Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso centers on a boy named Arima Kousei, a child prodigy known for winning various piano competitions. On a very young age, he was able to compete using composition written by Chopin and Mozart without a flaw. But after his mother's death, he suffered from depression and mental breakdown. Soon he found himself not able to hear the sounds of the piano anymore.

Two years after, he met Kaori Miyazono, a violinist with a unique style of playing. She plays them in a different pace making the same piece sound different. Kaori and Arima was not in good terms at first.

Kaori was first introduced as a cheerful and energetic girl who's in love with Watari Ryota (Arima's childhood friend). Tsubaki Sawabe (Also Arima's childhood friend) labelled Arima as "Friend A", as if emphasizing that Kaori will never fall for him so he just have to support them.

Sounds like a normal high school love story right?

At first it all seem as a normal, slice of life anime. But for the next few episode, you'll notice quick suspicious panels. Then BAM! Welcome to the feel club.

I rarely watch anime series with 20+ episodes but Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso is enjoyable. You rarely see anime series with a touch of classical music that's why it gave me a different feel.

I love the way how each character's hopes, fear, past experiences and present emotions change and affect other characters. Especially Kaori and Kousei. ***spoiler alert*** Too bad Kaori died.

Fans definitely shouldn't miss this. At first, I was kinda reluctant if I'll watch it because its a music anime. (the last music anime I watched was LoveLive!. Not that I don't find it entertaining but then its music. Is there anything more to expect from that?)

To be honest, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso's plot is not different from other anime. It has the love triangle (Kaori x Watari, Kousei x Kaori, Tsubaki x Kousei) and death (take AnoHana for example). But what makes it different? Maybe its how each characters cling to each other for support.

"Uhmm excuse me but do yo mean literally or what?"

Haru Matsu Bokura (We are Waiting for Spring)

Haru Matsu Bokura (We are Waiting for Spring)
Author: Anashin
Illustrator: Anashin

Your new basketball BAEs
Sudden realizations
Then there's rivalry lol

***********

For my first blog post I'll be featuring Haru Matsu Bokura by Anashin.

Haru Matsu Bokura centers on a girl named Mitsuki Haruno, a typical highschool girl with below average social skills. She's not that much of an introvert, but fears to socialize because she don't know how to fit in with her attitude. Meanwhile, she has a classmate named Asakura Towa, a member of their school's basketball team. He loves sleeping and has a dense, "I-don't-care-as-long-as-I'm-okay" attitude. (Like Haruka Nanase of Free! lol)

I first learned about this ongoing manga through Mangafox's FB page. By that time, it was one of the newest shoujo manga releases. The character designs really caught my attention so I decided to give it a shot. (As of now it has a total of 14 released chapters)

I'm not really a fan of reverse harem but Haru Matsu Bokura is really interesting. Not only because of the handsome characters but also how contrasting Towa and Mitsuki's attitude is. It really trills me how these two will end up... uhm maybe.

Stay tuned on the series here!

My rates:
Art - 9.5/10
Story - 9/10
